Browning Named MIAA Athlete of the Week
Sophomore John Browning has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Wrestling Athlete of the Week after he finished the weekend's worth of competition undefeated.
This is the first time this season that a Thunder grappler has taken home the weekly award.
Browning led the way for Trine as they competed in the 2022 Gator Boots Duals hosted by Luther College. Representing the team in at 174, he finished the weekend with three wins all coming by pin and earning the team six team points apiece.
He started with a pin at the 3:48 mark against Fontbonne as the Thunder cruised to a 53-4 victory. He followed up by securing the team's victory over Elmhurst University with a pin at the five-minute mark of his match. Finally, he secured the lone pin in a loss to nationally-ranked Luther getting a quick win at 1:04.
All told Trine went 2-1 at the event, the team's first dual matches of the season. They will take the mats again on Wednesday, January 4 when they host Marian University Ancilla for a 7 p.m. dual.
