Hallford Named NCHA Player of the Week While Recording 100th Game
Fifth-year Garrett Hallford has been named this week's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Trine University men's hockey team in a sweep of Marian (Wis.) University.
The award, the first NCHA weekly honor of Hallford's storied career, comes directly on the heels of becoming the first skater in the program's history to reach 100 games played. He is the program's career scoring leader owning records in goals, assists and points.
This week's sweep of the NCHA Player of the Week honors gives the Thunder their third and fourth recipients this season.
Hallford began the weekend with the fourth hattrick of his Trine career, fitting for the student-athlete who recorded the program's first ever hattrick back in early 2019. In the game he scored the second and third goals for the Thunder, both coming in the middle of the second period. His first reclaimed the lead for the team. His final goal responded to the Sabre's two goals in the third, icing the game and giving it its final 6-3 score.
On Saturday, Hallford opened the scoring for the team at just the 45-second mark of the first period. The goal became the game-winner in the contest as the Thunder cruised to a 5-0 shutout victory. He added an assist later in the game. The two-point day gave Hallford five for the weekend, a team high.
