Week One D3hoops.com Poll Sees Trine 20th
In the first mid-season NCAA DIII women's basketball poll put out by D3hoops.com, the Trine University women's basketball team is ranked number 20 in the country.
The Thunder have struggled early in the 2022-23 season and have suffered losses to Baldwin Wallace University, who is ranked 10th in the nation, and to Ohio Northern University, who is receiving votes. Trine is the highest-ranked two-loss team in the D3hoops.com poll and has picked up wins over Benedictine University, Edgewood College and Otterbein University.
The staple of this team has been their scoring defense, which leads the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) at 53.4 points per game. They also limit the number of times they give the ball away on turnovers with a league-low 14.2 turnovers per game.
Senior Sam Underhill has been the team leader in scoring at 11.8 points per game and shoots 61.8% from the field through five games this season. She also reels in eight rebounds per game to lead the Thunder. Sophomore Sierra Hinds also averages double figures in scoring at 11.4 points per game and has buried a team-high 10 three-point field goals.
Trine women's basketball opens up conference action on Wednesday, November 30 at Adrian College. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
