Trine Finishes Runners Up at Nationals
At the NCAA Division III Women's Collegiate Triathlon Championships, the Trine University triathlon program were national runners-up. The Thunder finished second overall behind only the national champion, North Central College.
Senior Amira Faulkner was the top finisher for Trine with a total time of 1:14:27.3. Faulkner turned it on late with the best run time out of all competitors at 20:00.3 to place second individually in the nation.
Freshman Grace Huisman finished eighth overall and led Trine in both the swim (11:10.5) and the bike (39:36.5). Her total time was 1:15:55.2. Just behind was ninth-place Alexandria Smith. The senior Smith had the best transition from bike to run (0:24.0) on the team en route to a 1:16:43.2.
Finishing just outside the top-10 in 12th was sophomore Kathryn Berlew. Berlew completed the triathlon in 1:18:28.4. Senior Samantha Weaver (18th), junior Rebecca Schaffner (19th) and freshman Summer South (21st) wrapped up the competitors for Trine at the national meet. Weaver had the team's best transition from the swim portion of the race to the bike at 1:16.3.
