Morrison Picks Up Win as Women's Wrestling Begins Season at Lourdes
The Trine University women's wrestling team traveled to face Lourdes University in their first competition of the season. Junior Riley Morrison was the main highlight of the evening picking up the team's first victory of the season.
"We are a team that is going to grow as we move forward through the season," said first year head coach Theresa Rankin, "I'm proud of what we accomplished today in less than perfect circumstances. We showed a lot of heart wrestling up in matches and wrestling for the first time. I can't wait to continue to see what the rest of the season holds."
Morrison led off for the Thunder in the 116 weight class against. After a hotly contested beginning of the match, she pinned her opponent at the 2:36 mark.
Classmate Michelle Sanchez went second, wrestling up a weight class at in 136. She battled through the entirety, but came up short on the scoreboard with a 13-4 loss.
Freshman Keira Wilson wrestled for the first time and held a 6-0 lead in the first half of the match, but would ultimately fall near the four minute mark.
Freshman Charissa Fauber and sophomore Ashton Francis both competed at 170 and were both defeated in the early part of the match.
The Thunder return to the mats on Sunday, November 13 when they travel to the Adrian Open hosted by Adrian College.
